Last Shot by John Feinstein is about a middle school boy named Stevie Thomas. Stevie Thomas is a great writer and enjoys basketball a lot. Stevie Thomas wins a writing contest along with another girl named Susan Carol. They then get tickets to the Final Four and have to write a story every day about the Final Four. Susan Carol is a girl about the same age as Stevie but she looks a lot older. She is very intelligent and knows a lot about basketball two. While Stevie and Susan Carol are on their way to a press conference at the Final Four, they overhear two people talking. One of these people are Chip Graber, the star basketball player for Minnesota State. Stevie and Susan Carol hear someone talking to Chip Graber about something that could be bad. Stevie and Susan Carol do not know the whole story but they know Chip is in danger. Susan Carol and Stevie try to tell an adult about the situation, but they are not believed. Stevie and Susan Carol then have to try to stop the blackmailer on their own. They then reach Chip Graber and Chip tells them everything. Stevie and Susan Carol then have to help Chip Graber win the national title and stay safe.

I would rate this book a nine and a half out of ten because I thought this book was very interesting and very fun to read. This book was about basketball and I enjoy basketball a lot. This book was also a mystery and mysteries are my favorite kinds of books to read. This book had lots of twists and you never knew what would happen next. This is my favorite book and I would recommend it to people who enjoy sports and people who like reading mysteries. This was a great book. I cant wait to read the sequal to this book Vanishing Act.
